Sonal Dabral
Deeply passionate about Advertising, Blackjack and Single Malts, Sonal Dabral was born in India and studied Visual Communications at India’s foremost design school: the National Institute of Design. Instead of making him the next Paul Rand or Tibor Kalman, the universe had other designs and threw him into a career in advertising. Destiny knows best it seems since in 3 different markets across Asia he has led his agencies to the no.1 creative position.
First up, he joined Ogilvy Mumbai in 1991 and in partnership with Piyush Pandey drove the agency from creative anonymity to India’s No.1 creative agency. In 1999 the Times Of India, a leading Indian newspaper had named Sonal as one of the 50 young Indians who will lead India into the next century. Perhaps to keep that promise Sonal returned to India in 2011 and started a new chapter in his career as the Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of DDB Mudra Group based out of Mumbai.
A popular speaker, Sonal has spoken at major festivals like Spikes Asia, Dubai Lynx, Cristal Advertising Festival, Turkey, LIA, besides numerous engagements across Asia. He successfully woke up a sleepy audience in Taiwan by singing an impromptu Bollywood song during a presentation sometime in 2005. Since then he has employed this trick to great effect in many randomly selected presentations.
In an earlier avatar, Sonal has been a popular TV host on prime time television, a Bollywood scriptwriter and has also been channeling his passion for films into directing ad films. His future plans include being a filmmaker on weekdays and a pro Blackjack player on weekends.
Prasoon Joshi
The man who is known as an adman, unlike today’s advertising generation, who wants to be an integral part of the industry, did not dream of becoming an adman. He had passion for words. That’s it! He gave his passion a right direction. When he joined an advertising agency as a Trainee, he knew that this is where he can do what he wants to. And then there was never looking back.
Coming from a small town, Almora in Uttarakhand to a metro city like Delhi and joining advertising industry during an era where English, not even Hinglish was preferred over all other languages, he was convinced that his words have the power to persuade people to buy whatever he wants to sell even in Hindi, when others had established the market in English. From a small town guy from Almora to the CEO and Chief Creative Officer of McCann Worldgroup India, and the Chairman of McCann Asia Pacific – the journey has been challenging yet rewarding and exhilarating.
Born to qualified classical vocalists, Prasoon Joshi did not go the singing way. Moving on to studies, he did his B.Sc and post-graduation in Physics, but once again, he chose a different course in life. ‘Exploring the unexplored’ was as if in his blood since the very beginning. He started showing the world his creative intellect from the age of 17 by publishing his very first book, Main Aur Woh — a ‘conversation with himself.’
Though known for his contribution in the advertising world, he has always made sure that through his words he helps the society to change, he helps the society to heal and transform. His poems “Iss Baar Nahin” and “Itna Kyun Sote Hai Hum,” and campaigns for social causes with UNICEF, Pulse Polio, HIV Breakthrough, the critical Malnutrition Campaign for the Government of India are the best examples of it. Also an Internationally acclaimed Advertising professional, Prasoon has been awarded with Cannes Lions, D&AD, and Clio amongst host of other International awards and honours. He is also a National Award winning Film script and songwriter.
The universality of Prasoon’s virtuosity lies in the fact that he recognizes, in his own words, that human emotions are the same all over the world — it is their expression alone that is different.
